Using ASK AI in CaseScribe

ASK AI is an AI-powered chatbot that lets you interact directly with your case data in CaseScribe. It understands your case facts, applied filters, and context, allowing you to quickly summarize information, draft legal documents, and explore case strategy without leaving your workflow.

ASK AI is designed to help you work faster while staying grounded in verified case facts.


What You Can Use ASK AI For

ASK AI supports both simple and advanced use cases, including:

  • Finding specific documents or facts

  • Counting service-connected or claimed conditions

  • Summarizing case facts

  • Drafting briefs or IME letters

  • Exploring case strategy and issue development

Responses are generated within seconds and stream live as they are created.


How to Open ASK AI

You can launch ASK AI from multiple locations in CaseScribe:

  • The Ask AI button in the header

  • The Case Summary view

  • The Filters and Sorts panel

When ASK AI opens, you may see suggested prompts such as drafting a brief or creating an IME letter. These prompts are optional but useful starting points if you are unsure what to ask.


How Filters Affect ASK AI

ASK AI always respects your active filters, regardless of where you open it.

This includes filters such as:

  • Specific conditions (for example, PTSD or diabetes)

  • Document types or subtypes

  • Tags applied to facts

Only the facts that match your current filters are sent to the AI.

No Filters Applied

If no filters are active, ASK AI reviews all available facts in the case.


Reviewing Sources and Verifying Information

Every response generated by ASK AI includes source attribution.

  • Click the source icon to view the original fact

  • The PDF viewer opens automatically, allowing you to verify the information in context

You can keep the PDF viewer open while using ASK AI, making it easy to read documents and chat with the AI at the same time.


Managing the ASK AI Interface

ASK AI includes several controls to fit your workflow:

  • Pin or minimize the chatbot using the control in the upper-right corner

  • Keep ASK AI visible in a docked view while continuing other work

  • Resize the chatbot window to match your screen and preferences

  • Use Copy to Clipboard to paste AI responses directly into your working documents


Turning AI Responses into Case Data

ASK AI allows you to take action directly from its responses.

Creating Facts from AI Responses

  • Click the plus (+) icon below an AI response

  • Select which document the new fact should belong to

Tagging Facts in Bulk

  • Click the tag icon to automatically apply tags to all facts used in the AI response

  • This avoids manually tagging individual facts


Starting a New Chat

When you start a new ASK AI chat:

  • All existing filters are cleared

  • A fresh context is created for the new conversation


Persistent and Shared Conversations

ASK AI conversations are persistent and shared across the case.

  • Your chat history remains available even if you close and reopen ASK AI

  • The same conversation appears no matter where ASK AI is opened

  • Chats are shared with other users working on the same case

Sharing a Conversation

  • Open the three-dot menu

  • Copy the chat link to share the conversation with others


New: Smarter Search, Reasoning, and Document Awareness

ASK AI has been significantly enhanced to handle complex cases more intelligently and proactively.

Instead of relying only on what is immediately visible, ASK AI can now actively search, reason, and surface the most relevant information based on your question.

Smarter Search and Reasoning

ASK AI can now:

  • Search your case using keywords from your question

  • Automatically identify the most relevant facts

  • Read supporting documents such as:

    • Rating decisions

    • Medical records

    • C&P exams

    • Personal statements

  • Pull exact language from documents when needed to support its answers

ASK AI is no longer limited to extracted facts alone. It can now read document contents directly, allowing for deeper analysis and more precise responses.
