This release introduces improvements to the Case Review view and updated formatting for facts extracted from key documents. These changes aim to support a multi-tiered approach to case analysis starting with a high-level summary and allowing for deeper review when needed.
1. Case Review Fact Enhancements
We’ve expanded and refined how Case Review facts are generated to better support early-stage review (Tier 1) without overwhelming users with detail. There are now three categories of Case Review handling:
No Case Review fact created: For documents without a qualifying high-level fact, facts are still created and visible in the timeline but are not flagged for case review.
Covered by existing rules: Subtypes like Rating Decisions and C&P Exams continue to generate a single, relevant fact per document, and are tagged as Case Review.
Medical records needing summaries: For CAPRI, VAMC, and similar documents, a single placeholder summary fact is created and marked as Case Review while more detailed facts are still available in the full timeline.
2. Automatic Case Review Tagging by Document Subtype
The following subtypes are now automatically tagged as Case Review:

3. Placeholder Fact Text for Case Review

Medical Records (VAMC, PMR):
[Facility Name] – [Date Range] – [Total Pages]Military Records (SR, SMR, STR, etc.):
SRs – [Total Pages]
SMRs – [Total Pages]
These placeholders give quick context for document type, origin, and length.

5. Expanded Fact Extraction Rules for Medical Records
We’ve updated our extraction logic to include all clinical notes, not just those directly tied to a veteran’s claim.
Previously, the system prioritized extracting only high-impact facts such as diagnoses, treatments, or opinions relevant to service connection. With this update, every distinct clinical note will now be extracted, including routine entries and brief updates.
As a result, users can expect to see more facts per document than before. This change ensures a more complete medical record is available for review and tagging, especially in complex or lengthy files.
These rules aim to improve completeness and consistency of fact extraction, especially for medical records that were previously handled with limited automation.
These updates support a faster, more organized review process while preserving full detail in the timeline when needed.
