How to Create and Use Client Tags

Tags help you organize clients using labels that are meaningful to your firm. For example, you can create tags such as Needs Attorney Review, Priority, or other labels that match your workflow.

Once a tag is added to a client, you can use it to quickly filter clients from the Clients page.

Create a tag

To create and add a tag to a client:

  1. Open the client you want to update.

  2. In the Client Details panel on the left, click the three-dot (•••) menu.

  3. Select Edit.

  4. Find the Tags section.

  5. Enter the name of the tag you want to create.

  6. Select the new tag to add it to the client.

  7. Save your changes.

The tag will now appear in the client’s Tags section.

Tip: Use clear and consistent tag names so other members of your firm can easily understand what each tag represents.

Filter clients by tag

Tags can also be used to find groups of clients from the Clients page.

  1. Go to Clients.

  2. Click Tags at the top of the client list.

  3. Select one or more tags.

  4. Click Apply.

The client list will update to show clients matching the selected tags.

You can combine the Tags filter with Team and Status filters to narrow the client list further.

Use tags with saved views

If you regularly use the same filters, you can save them as a view instead of selecting them each time.

For example, your firm could create a view that combines a particular Team, Workflow Status, and a Needs Attorney Review tag. This makes it easier to return to the clients that match that workflow.

Views can be created for personal use or shared with your firm, depending on how the view is configured.

Remove or delete a tag

To remove a tag from a client:

  1. Open the client you want to update.

  2. In the Client Details panel, click the three-dot (•••) menu.

  3. Select Edit.

  4. Under Tags, remove the tag from the client.

  5. Save your changes.

To completely remove a tag from your organization’s tag list, the tag must first be manually removed from every client it is assigned to.

Once the tag is no longer assigned to any clients, it will be removed from the available tags list.

Note: If a tag is still assigned to one or more clients, it will continue to appear as an available tag and cannot be deleted from the list.

Alternatives: Tags in the new Clients workflow

The redesigned Clients page gives your firm several ways to organize and manage its caseload. In addition to tags, clients can be organized by Team and Workflow Status.

From the Clients page, you can:

  • Filter clients by Team, Status, and Tags

  • Save frequently used filters as views

  • Quickly access recently viewed clients

  • Update a client’s Team or Workflow Status

  • Add workflow notes and review changes

  • See when clients were last updated based on recent client, case, and document activity

Teams are optional, and Workflow Statuses can be customized to match your firm’s process. Organization admins can manage Teams and Case Statuses from the Admin area.
